The selector lever cable needs to be adjusted if

the selector lever cable was disconnected from the gearbox.

Either the engine and/or transmission has been removed/installed.

If the cable or gear shift mechanism itself has been removed/installed, or the position of the engine/gearbox has been changed, for example to eliminate stress or distortion.

Adjustment

Set the selector lever to position "P".

Unscrew bolt 2 of cable 1.

Gently rock the selector lever handle back and forth, without moving the lever itself from the "P" position (Fig. 3.84).

In this case, the cable takes the optimal position in its sheath.

Set the gearshift control lever/shaft 3 on the gearbox to position "P" (push the lever back).

Note: To check if the transmission is actually in "P" position (transmission locked), the car must be lifted. Both front wheels must not rotate in the same direction.

Tighten screw 2 to 15 Nm.

Emergency release of the selector lever

Do not remove the lever handle.

Disconnect the selector lever boot retainers and, turning the boot inside out, lift its frame towards the handle.

Press the service brake pedal or apply the parking brake.

Press the yellow plastic piece from the right side to push it to the left (Fig. 3.85).

After this, the lever can be moved out of the "P" position.
