Checking and adjusting the selector rod (VW Touareg 1)

Examination



Move the selector to position "P".

Remove the sound insulation under the gearbox.

Disconnect selector rod 2 from the gear selection lever/rod (Fig. 3.11).

Shift the selector from position "P" to position "S".

In this case, the selector rod and gear shift drive should have an easy movement, otherwise, replace the selector rod or gear shift drive.

Move the selector to position "P".

Set the gear selector lever/rod on the gearbox to the "P" position. The lever should engage the parking lock wheel, the front wheels are locked (cannot spin in the same direction at the same time).

The selector rod must press on the gear selector lever/rod, otherwise adjust the selector rod.

Carefully press the selector rod onto the gear selector lever/rod. Do not bend the gear selector lever/rod, otherwise the gear shifting will not be adjusted accurately.

Adjust the selector rod.

Lever Setting



Disconnect the selector linkage from the gear selector lever/rod.

Move the selector to position "S".

Set the gear selector lever/rod on the transmission to the "D" position.



Remove the selector lever handle.

It is essential to follow the sequence of disconnecting the battery.

Disconnect the ground terminal from the battery with the ignition off.

Remove the ashtray and gear shift boot from the center console.

Remove the gear shift cover.

Remove the frame from the gear shift drive.

Loosen the selector link clamp bolt approximately one turn.

Carefully press the selector rod against the gear selector lever/rod so as not to bend the gear selector lever/rod, otherwise the gear shift cannot be adjusted accurately.

Determine the position of the selector by slightly rocking the selector in position "D" back and forth, without switching from position "D".

Tighten the clamping bolt in this position with a torque of 10 Nm. For this purpose, you can use the T40031 attachment (Fig. 3.12).

Further installation is carried out in reverse order.

Install the ashtray and center console shifter cover.

Connect the battery.

Perform work operations after connecting the battery.
