Removal and installation the gear selector cable (VW Passat B6)

Note: Set the selector lever to the "S" position.

Removal

Press cable 1 away from lever 3 using key 2 (Fig. 3.84).

Squeeze the clamps and remove the cable from the counter support.

Raise the car.

To further remove the cable traction and/or gearbox shift drive, it is necessary to remove the heat-insulating shield and, if necessary, the exhaust system parts.

Remove the heat shield.

Remove the shift mechanism housing.

To remove the cable pull, use a screwdriver to press the pin upward.

At the same time, push the locking pin plate forward.

Remove the locking plate. The washer must be replaced.

Remove the lever cable.

Installation

Loosen the cable adjustment screw.

Do not lubricate the cable.

Route the cable so that it is not stretched, inserting it into the support on the gearbox as well, but not securing it with lock washers yet.

Then insert the cable into the holder. Make sure that the holder does not touch the oil cooler.

Attach the cable to the selector and with a new lock washer to the shift mechanism support.



Install the shift housing, heat shield and exhaust system.

After installation, check the cable.
