NOTE: System «Tiptronic» provides the driver with the ability to manually shift gears.
In position D, move the selector to the right to turn on the mode «Tiptronic» (pic. 1.112).
Slightly push the selector forward + to engage a higher gear.
Slightly push the selector back - for inclusion of lower transfer.
When accelerating, the automatic transmission shifts automatically from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears to a higher gear just before the engine reaches its maximum speed.
If you select a lower gear, then the shift will occur only when there is no danger of engine twisting.
Manual gear shift - «Tiptronic» (levers on the steering wheel)
If the selector is in position D or S, then when one of the levers on the steering wheel is actuated, the automatic transmission switches to manual control mode «Tiptronic».
Pull the right lever + to the steering wheel to shift gears up (pic. 1.113).
Pull the left lever - towards the steering wheel to shift gears down.
Approximately 15 seconds after the last action on one of the levers, the gearbox automatically switches to the previously selected program D or S.
When accelerating, the automatic transmission shifts automatically from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears to a higher gear just before the engine reaches its maximum speed.
If you select a lower gear, then the shift will occur only when there is no danger of engine twisting.
Selector positions
NOTE: The display in the instrument cluster shows the position of the selector and the gear engaged.
The position of the selector is shown both on the side of the selector and on the instrument panel display (pic. 1.114).
Indication of the engaged gear in manual control.
If the gear change was carried out manually «Tiptronic», then the display shows only the indication of this gear (pic. 1.115).
R - Parking (parking) blocking
With this position of the selector, the driving wheels of the vehicle are mechanically locked.
It will only be possible to move the selector to the parking lock position when the vehicle is stationary.
When moving to position P and exiting it, you must press the lock button (in the selector lever) and depress the brake pedal at the same time.
With a discharged battery, it will not be possible to remove the selector from position P.
R - Reverse
In this selector position reverse gear is engaged.
It will only be possible to move the selector to the reverse position when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is idling.
When moving to position R, you must press the lock button and simultaneously press the brake pedal. In selector position R with the ignition on, the reversing lights are on.
N - Neutral position
With this selector position, the gearbox is in idle mode; there is no power transmission to the drive wheels and no engine braking.
Never move the selector to position N when driving downhill - there is no engine braking. The service brake system is under too much stress.
When driving downhill with selector position N and the engine off, the automatic transmission may fail.
D - Position for long forward movement (normal program)
With this selector position, all forward gears are automatically switched up and down. The nature of the shifts is determined by the engine load, your driving style and speed. When driving in the mountains at this selector position, the braking capabilities of the engine are minimal. The display shows the selected selector position D and the currently engaged gear.
When moving the selector from position N to position D at speeds below 5 km/h and with the vehicle stationary, press the brake pedal.
S - Position for long forward movement (sport program)
With this selector position, all forward gears are automatically shifted up late and down early to fully utilize engine power. The nature of the shifts is determined by the engine load, your driving style and speed. When driving in the mountains at this selector position, the braking capabilities of the engine are minimal. The display shows the selected selector position S and the currently engaged gear.
ATTENTION: When driving with the engine off and the selector in position N, the automatic transmission fails due to lack of lubrication.
NOTE: If you accidentally move the selector to position N while driving, you must take your foot off the gas pedal and wait for the engine to idle before returning the selector back to position D.
Selector lock
NOTE: The selector lock prevents accidental transfer of the selector to one of the driving positions and, thereby, uncontrolled starting of the vehicle.
To release the selector lock, press and hold down the brake pedal and at the same time press the lock button on the left side of the selector handle.
The selector lock is only engaged when the vehicle is stationary and at speeds up to 5 km/h. At higher speeds, the selector lock in position N is automatically deactivated.
When translating the selector through position N (e.g. from R to D) the selector is not blocking. This makes it possible, for example, "rocking» stuck car. If the selector is in position N for more than one second with the brake pedal not pressed, the selector lock is activated.
