Place the manual transmission lever in neutral. Press the clutch pedal all the way down and hold it in this position.
Hold the car in place using the brake pedal.
Turn the ignition key to position 1 (fig. 1.109) when the starting heating is turned on, the control lamp lights up.

When the indicator light does not light (or it's not burning anymore), turn the ignition key to position 2 (fig. 1.109) to start the engine, do not press the fuel pedal.
Release the ignition key when the engine starts - the starter should not rotate while the engine is running.
After starting a cold engine, it will operate with increased noise for some time, since the oil pressure in the hydraulic valve clearance compensators is not yet high enough. This is normal.
Pre-heating of a diesel engine
While the heating is running, do not turn on powerful current consumers - this will put too much load on the battery.
As soon as the starting preheating indicator lamp goes out, you should start the engine.
Starting a diesel engine after the fuel tank has been used up
If the fuel tank was completely empty, the first time you start the engine after refueling, the starting process will take longer than usual - up to half a minute. The reason for this is that the fuel system must be purged of air during engine starting.
