«6-speed automatic transmission 09G» has 6 forward gears with hydraulic control. By slipping the torque converter when the lockup clutch is closed, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gears are activated mechanically.
Torque converter
The torque converter is equipped with a lock-up clutch. The lock-up clutch engages depending on loads and speed. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gears can be mechanically actuated (no slip).
ATF fluid
ATF fluid is filled in for a long time. As part of maintenance, ATF replacement is not provided.
The ATF level in the planetary gear and final drive is checked and topped up at the same time.
Automatic transmission control unit with adaptive shift system (Fuzzy – Logic)
The determination of the shift point, which depends on the traffic situation and the driving resistance, is carried out automatically.
Do not start the engine or tow the vehicle if the gearbox covers are removed or there is no oil in the crankcase.
Before unscrewing the connections, thoroughly clean them and the adjacent areas.
Before connecting the gearbox to the engine, make sure that all centering sleeves are in place.
Place the removed parts on a clean surface and cover to keep them free of dirt. To do this, use film and paper. Do not use fluffy rags.
Install only clean parts. Spare parts should only be taken out of the packaging immediately before installation.
If repair is not carried out immediately, carefully cover or cover the parts.
With the gearbox removed, secure the torque converter to prevent it from falling.
Gaskets, o-rings and oil
O-rings, sealing rings and gaskets can only be replaced.
Before installing the radial sealing ring, lubricate the sealing lip with oil and the space between them with sealing grease.
Install lip seals with the open side facing the sealed cavity.
After installation, check the ATF fluid level.
Caution: Care must be taken when handling oil. Drained oil must be disposed of in accordance with accepted regulations.
Bolts, screws, nuts
Bolts / screws and nuts for fastening covers and crankcase elements should be unscrewed and tightened crosswise.
Clean the threads of bolts/screws lubricated when tightening with a threadlocker with a wire brush. Apply AMV 185 100 A1 to the threads of these screws before screwing them in.
All threaded holes into which self-locking bolts / screws are screwed must be cleaned with a tap from the remnants of the retainer. Otherwise, during the next disassembly, their threads may be torn off. Always replace self-locking bolts and nuts.
