the "6-speed automatic transmission 09G" has 6 forward gears with hydraulic control. Due to the slippage of the torque converter with the locking clutch closed, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gears are mechanically activated.

Torque converter

The torque converter is equipped with a lock-up clutch. The lock-up clutch engages depending on the load and speed. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gears can be mechanically actuated (no slipping).

ATF fluid

ATF fluid is filled for a long period of time. Replacement of ATF fluid is not provided as part of maintenance.

The ATF fluid level in the planetary gear and final drive is checked and topped up simultaneously.

Automatic transmission control unit with adaptive shifting system (Fuzzy – Logic)

The determination of the switching moment, which depends on the road situation and driving resistance, is carried out automatically.

Do not start the engine or tow the vehicle if the gearbox covers are removed or there is no oil in the crankcase.

Before loosening the connections, thoroughly clean them and the adjacent areas.

Before connecting the gearbox to the engine, make sure that all centering bushings are in place.

Place the removed parts on a clean surface and cover them to prevent dirt from getting on them. Use film and paper for this. Do not use lint-free rags.

Install only clean parts. Remove spare parts from their packaging only immediately before installation.

If repairs cannot be made immediately, carefully cover or shield the parts.

When the gearbox is removed, secure the torque converter to prevent it from falling.

Gaskets, O-rings and oil

O-rings, seals and gaskets can only be replaced.

The information is available on the website (VWManual)

Before installing the radial sealing ring, lubricate the working edge of the seal with oil and the space between them with sealing grease.

Install the lip seals with the open side facing the cavity to be sealed.

After installation, check the ATF fluid level.

Caution: Handle oil with care. Dispose of drained oil in accordance with accepted regulations.

Bolts, screws, nuts

Bolts/screws and nuts for fastening covers and crankcase elements should be unscrewed and screwed crosswise.

Clean the threads of bolts/screws that have been lubricated with threadlocker when tightened with a wire brush. Apply AMV 185 100 A1 locking agent to the threads of such screws before screwing them in.

All threaded holes into which self-locking bolts/screws are screwed must be cleaned with a tap from the remains of the locking agent. Otherwise, their threads may be stripped during the next disassembly. Always replace self-locking bolts and nuts.
