On Volkswagen diesel engines, cylinder head gaskets of different thicknesses are installed depending on whether the pistons used have deviations in the upper or lower part. Since the gasket, as we know, is installed between the block and the cylinder head, it is possible to vary the height of the combustion chamber by choosing its thickness and thus equalize the different heights of the pistons.
