Installing oil seals on an engine removed from a vehicle
Lubricate the seal lip and cage and carefully press it into the cover flush with the cover.
Carefully put the cover with the stuffing box on the end of the crankshaft and press it against the cylinder block. Screw in and tighten the bolts evenly around the circumference.
Installing oil seals on an engine installed in a car
When installing the front oil seal on the old crankshaft, you can use the branch pipe resting against the outer diameter of the oil seal. In the center of this fixture is a bolt designed to be screwed into the crankshaft toe hole. Screwing the bolt, press the gland. If you do not have such a device, you can use a piece of pipe of the appropriate diameter. Attach only a washer to its end. Pick up a long bolt with the appropriate thread and screw it into the toe of the crankshaft, pressing the oil seal.
When installing the front oil seal on a crankshaft with a modified nose design, it is necessary to use the bushing shown in fig. 86, which is put on the neck of the crankshaft. Lubricate the seal lip and slide it onto the specified bushing. Attach tool No. 3083 to the bushing and screw the bolt into the crankshaft toe, pressing the oil seal. After completing the operation, remove the bushing and fixture.
When replacing the rear seal, carefully put it on the toe without damaging the working edges. Then use either the special mandrel 2003/1 or a round washer (see fig. 89) with a through hole for the crankshaft journal. Screw this mandrel with two bolts to the flywheel. Tighten both bolts evenly to install the seal. All other actions are performed in the reverse order of disassembly.
