NOTE: If a plastic sealing flange is installed, the seal cannot be replaced separately - the sealing flange must be replaced.
Removal
Place the radiator frame in the service position.
Remove the poly V-belt. Remove the torsional vibration damper. To do this, secure the torsional vibration damper with the T10069 locking key.
Insert hook T20143/1, as shown in Figure 2.48, under the working edge of the seal.

Place the hook - T20143/1 - on the flange, pry the seal in the direction of the arrow and remove it.
Installation
Remove any remaining oil from the crankshaft cap with a clean cloth.

Place guide sleeve 1 (T10215/1) on the crankshaft tip from the front.
Then carefully push the seal 2 over the guide sleeve as deeply as possible.
Press the seal in until it stops using mandrel 3 (T10215/2). To do this, use the old mounting bolt 4 of the torsional vibration damper (Fig. 2.49).

NOTE: The vibration damper mounting bolt must be replaced.
Tighten the mounting bolt using the VAG 1601 torque wrench.
Install the torsional vibration damper and secure it with the T10069 locking key.
Tighten the new mounting bolt to a torque of 100 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°).
Install the poly V-belt.
