Turning the crankshaft, install the pistons so that none of them is at TDC.
Remove the valve cover.
Turn out bolts of fastening of a toothed pulley to a camshaft (the pulley must be well locked).
Partially drain the liquid from the cooling system, loosen the pump housing in the manner described above. Remove the toothed belt and toothed pulley from the camshaft. Remove components of system of ignition. For a carbureted engine, remove the fuel pump.
Remove bearing caps Nq 1, 3, 5 (see fig. 42), gradually unscrewing the nuts in turn on each side. On the front cover, also remove both bolts.
Cover nuts 2 and 4 bearings evenly «criss-cross» loosen until both covers come off. Remove covers and take out a camshaft. Before laying down the covers, they need to be inspected. Wide ledge (cm. «A» pic. 42) located on the intake manifold side, cover number (IN) must also be read from the intake manifold side.
If necessary, pushers can be removed. They cannot be interchanged and it is recommended to mark them. This is best done with strokes on the inside (see fig. 43), marking the first pusher with one line, the second with two, etc. The removed pushers must lie on the end surface that interacts with the cams so that oil does not flow out of them. Pushers should be removed from the drive side.
Installation camshaft is produced as follows:
Lubricate the shaft bearing journals with engine oil and install the shaft in place.
Take the bearing caps one by one and determine which side the wide lip is on «A» (see fig. 42). This tab should point towards the intake manifold. Install covers in order. Letters «IN» must also be read from the intake manifold side.
Make sure none of the pistons are at TDC. Bolts of fastening of covers 2 and 4 tighten the moment of 6 Nm «criss-cross»; cover bolts No. 1, 3, 5 with a torque of 6 Nm. Tighten all bolts one by one an additional 1/4 turn (90°).
Insert both bolts (see fig. 94) and tighten to 10 Nm.
Reinstall the toothed pulley as described earlier and perform all other operations in the reverse order of disassembly.
Attention! If new hydraulic tappets have been installed, the engine must not be started for 30 minutes, otherwise the valves may come into contact with the pistons.
