Carburetor — removal and installation (VW Golf 2)

1. Disconnect the battery ground wire clamp.

2. Remove the air filter assembly.

3. Disconnect the throttle cable from the carburetor. In vehicle models where the fuel systems include an electromagnetic shut-off valve, a side air valve, a partial throttle channel heater, or an automatic suction control unit, it is necessary to disconnect the electrical wires from this equipment.

4. Drain half of the fluid from the engine cooling system, then disconnect the elastic hoses from the automatic suction unit.

5. Disconnect the fuel pipes, feed and return, from the carburetor or fuel sump (depending on the junction) and plug or clamp the edges of these pipes to make it impossible for fuel to leak out.

It is necessary to mark the connection points of individual pipes to avoid errors during assembly.

6. Disconnect the elastic low-pressure hoses, having first marked their connection points.

7. Loosen diameter bolts 1, 2 and 3 or fastening nuts (depending on the design solution) and the carburetor from the drive manifold.

8. To disconnect the intermediate cuff from the manifold, you need to unscrew the four nuts under the manifold and lift the cuff

9. Assembly is performed in the reverse order of disassembly. Make sure that the working surfaces on the drive manifold, middle cuff and carburetor are clean. New gaskets should be installed.

10. Add fluid to the engine cooling system, start the engine and check for fuel and coolant leaks. Adjust the carburetor if necessary.
