Gas cable — automatic transmission (VW Golf 2)

1. In models of cars with an automatic transmission, the gas pedal moves a cable that is attached to the gearshift (speed) control lever on the gearbox housing. The lever simultaneously moves the throttle cable installed between the gearbox and the carburetor.

2. Before removing one or the other cable, it is necessary to set the gear selector lever to the "P" (parking) position.

3. To remove the gas pedal cable, you must first loosen the cable adjusting nut, then disconnect the cable from the control lever and disconnect the metal cable guard from its bracket. You can then disconnect the cable from the pedal and remove it in the same way as on models with a manual transmission.

4. To remove the throttle cable, loosen the nut and lock nut in the support bracket on the carburetor, remove the clamp securing the cable, and disconnect it from the carburetor.

5. At the end of the cable at the gearbox, lift and remove the fastening clamp and disconnect the cable from the control lever and the fastening bracket.

6. Installation of both cables is carried out in the reverse order of removal, but each cable must be adjusted.
