3. Remove the ignition/starter switch from the steering column lock housing.
4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Replacing the cylinder mechanism of the lock (release models before November 1975)
1. Remove the steering wheel and wiper/turn signal paddles.
2. Use pliers to remove the lock plate. Insert the key into the lock, turn it clockwise by about the thickness of the key and remove the cylinder mechanism together with the key.
3. Before installing a new cylinder mechanism, insert the key into it.
4. Replace lock plate and secure.
5. Reassemble the remaining parts in the reverse order of disassembly.
Replacing the cylinder mechanism of the lock (production models from september 1975 to july 1976)
1 Remove the steering column switch block from the steering column (see section "Switches and cigarette lighter").
2. Separate the turn signal and wiper paddles from the steering column lock housing.
3. Drill a 3 mm hole in the lock body at the point shown in fig. P:11.
4. Press the spring through the hole and pull out the lock cylinder.
CAUTION: Do not remove the sealing plate as this may accidentally break the tab on the turn signal switch on vehicles not equipped with the "pauses" wiper.
Replacing the cylinder mechanism of the lock (release models from August 1976)
The cylinder mechanism is replaced in the same way as on models manufactured since November 1975, but the hole must be drilled in a different place (see fig. P:12).
Since August 1977, the design of the steering column switch block has been changed - the shape of the levers has been changed, the wiring has been changed (it became possible to turn on the windshield wipers in intermittent mode) and added an additional built-in contact to turn on the rear wiper/washer. The new design switch cannot be installed on earlier models.
The design of the steering column lock housing remained unchanged.
