Steering column parts (kafer 1200 cars): 1 - ignition switch; 2 - steering wheel lock; 3 - lock cylinder;4 - contact ring with starting cam (install with protrusion to the right; lubricate with universal grease); 5 - hex nut; 6 - direction indicator switch; 7 - steering column cover clamping screw; 8 - steering column cover; 9 - holder
Removal
Remove the steering wheel (see section "Removal and installation the steering wheel").
Loosen the turn signal switch and pull it out slightly.
Remove the holder.
To remove the lock cylinder, turn the ignition key to the "Fahrt" position, pull out the cylinder together with the steering wheel lock, while moving the wires. Acting through the hole (see arrow A), press the steel wire down on the cylinder support spring. Turn the key from the parking position to the right (see arrow B) approximately the thickness of a key. Remove the key from the lock cylinder (see arrow C).

If it is necessary to replace the ignition switch (included):

Turn the ignition key to the "Fahrt" position and remove the lock cylinder together with the steering wheel lock.
Disconnect the wires from the ignition switch at the back of the instrument panel (pre-mark the wires).
Installation
Insert the new ignition switch and secure it.

Insert the ignition lock cylinder. To do this, push the catch opposite the key (see arrow E). Move the lock cylinder to position "Haltestellung" (parking position, left stop) using the inserted key. Press the keyless entry cylinder into the steering wheel lock.
Please note: The ignition switch comes with long wires as a spare part (for right-hand drive vehicles) and with wires for the buzzer or parking light. Depending on the vehicle version, remove the insulation layer from the wire for the buzzer or parking light and insulate the wire.
Insert the assembled ignition lock cylinder, steering wheel lock and ignition lock into the steering column housing. The cylinder must be in the "Halt" position ("Parking").
Carefully pull the wires through the cover on the steering column.
Place the insulating tube around the ignition switch and turn signal switch wire harnesses and secure it with electrical tape.
Route the common wiring harness through the grommet at the rear of the instrument panel.
Install the holder. Install the insulating caps onto the mounting bolts. Secure the turn signal switch with screws and seal the screws with varnish.
Check the operation of the ignition switch and turn signal switch. Set the wheels straight so that the lock fits into the groove, remove the ignition key.
Install the steering wheel.
Connect the ground wire to the battery.
