Steering column parts (Kafer 1200 vehicles): 1 - ignition lock; 2 - steering wheel lock; 3 - lock cylinder; 4 - slip ring with starting cam (install with a ledge to the right; lubricate with universal grease); 5 - hex nut; 6 - turn indicator switch; 7 - clamping screw of the steering column casing; 8 - casing of the steering column; 9 - holder
Removing
Remove steering wheel (see section "Removal and installation of a steering wheel").
Loosen the turn switch and pull it out slightly.
Remove holder.
To remove the lock cylinder, turn the ignition key to position "Fahrt", pull out the cylinder together with the steering wheel lock, while moving the wires. Acting through the hole (see arrow A), push the steel wire down on the cylinder support spring. Turn the key from the parking position to the right (see arrow B) about the width of the key. Remove the key from the lock cylinder (see arrow C).
If you need to replace the ignition switch (included):
Turn the ignition key to position "Fahrt", remove the lock cylinder together with the steering wheel lock.
Disconnect the wires from the ignition switch behind the instrument panel (pre-mark the wires).
Installation
Insert a new ignition switch and secure it.
Insert the ignition lock cylinder. To do this, squeeze the lead opposite the key (see arrow E). Move the lock cylinder to position "Haltestellung" (parking position, left stop) with the inserted key. Press the keyless lock cylinder into the steering wheel lock.
Attention! As a spare part, the ignition lock comes with long wires (for vehicles with right-hand drive) and with wires for a buzzer or a parking light. Depending on the vehicle variant, remove the insulating layer of the wire for the buzzer or parking light and insulate the wire.
Insert the ignition lock cylinder, steering wheel lock and ignition lock assembled together into the steering column cover. The cylinder must be in position "Halt" ("parking").
Carefully route the wires through the casing on the steering column.
Route an insulating tube around the wire harnesses from the ignition switch and turn signal switch and secure it with electrical tape.
Route the common wiring harness through the grommet at the rear of the instrument panel.
Install holder. Install the insulating caps on the fixing bolts. Fasten the turn signal switch with screws and lock the screws with varnish.
Check the operation of the ignition switch and turn signal switch. Set the wheels straight so that the latch enters the groove, remove the ignition key.
Install steering wheel.
Connect wire "masses" to the battery.
