Warm up the engine (oil temperature not less than 80°С). Verify that the throttle position sensor is properly adjusted (see above), and also that the idle speed and carbon monoxide content (SO) in the exhaust gases correspond to the norm.
Connect the control tachometer and stroboscope in accordance with the operating instructions. Loosen the screws securing the ignition distributor housing.
Start the engine at idle. Remove the hatch cover of the clutch housing and direct the strobe light beam into the hatch. To better see the alignment marks, you need to lean towards the clutch housing. If the ignition timing is set correctly, the alignment mark on the flywheel should be opposite the pointer in the hatch of the clutch housing. To set the initial ignition timing, achieve alignment of the mark and pointer by turning the ignition distributor housing. Tighten the screws securing the distributor housing and disconnect the tachometer and stroboscope. Install the clutch housing manhole cover.
