Removal and installation the ignition distributor (VW Passat B4)

To remove, disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery. Disconnect the spark plug wires and the high-voltage wire of the ignition coil from the ignition distributor. Remove the ignition distributor cover. Turning the engine crankshaft, set the piston of the 1st cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke, aligning the mark on the flywheel with the pointer in the clutch housing hatch (fig. 2-198). Disconnect the ignition distributor connector. Loosen the ignition distributor mounting screws and remove it.



When installing, make sure that the piston of the 1st cylinder is in the TDC position of the compression stroke. Install the ignition distributor in place, ensuring that the clutch cams enter the grooves of the camshaft. Install the rotor and distributor cover. Connect the high-voltage wires. Tighten the distributor housing mounting screws without tightening them. Check the setting of the initial ignition timing angle and tighten the distributor housing mounting screws.
