Note: A special tool is required to adjust the gearshift drive. If such a tool is not available, the adjustment cannot be performed. In this case, before removing, mark with paint or a scriber the position of the cable counter-support on the gearbox and the bolts on the gearbox levers. This will allow the cables to be installed in the same position they were in before removal. After installation, check the gearshift and adjust if necessary in a VAG workshop.
Place the gear shift lever in neutral position.
Remove the lever handle and cover, see chapter "Body".

Loosen bolt "A" and nut "B" at the gearshift levers on the gearbox so that the drive cables in the longitudinal holes become free and can move.

Loosen bolt "C", install the VAG 3192 gear shift lever gauge.
Turn the hook for fixing the gauge under the support plate and tighten the nut "D".
Press the gearshift lever to the left fixed position of the sliding element. Press the gearshift lever together with the sliding element of the gauge to the left (arrow) until it stops and fix it with the bolt "E" of the gauge.

Press the shift lever to the right locking position in the direction of the arrow. Tighten bolt "C".

Install the wedge element and the VAG 3192/1 insert pin on the gearshift lever on the gearbox. Insert the wedge element between the lever and the lever cover without any gap.
Note: The gearshift lever must not be raised.
In this position, screw both drive cables to the levers. Make sure that the cable between the counter support and the fastening bolt is taut.
Remove the gauge and wedge element.
Examination
Check if the gear shift lever is in the 3/4 gear engagement line.
Shift through all gears. Pay particular attention to the reverse gear lock. If necessary, readjust the gear selector.
Install the gear shift lever cover and screw on the lever head.
