Adjusting the throttle of the automatic transmission (VW Passat B3)

In order to quickly achieve the required acceleration, for example when overtaking, the automatic transmission has a so-called accelerator switch, which is activated when the gas pedal is fully depressed. The automatic transmission control unit ensures that the transmission either remains in direct gear longer or shifts from a higher gear to a lower gear. A prerequisite for the accelerator switch to function is the correct adjustment of the gas traction.

Adjustment

Clamp a 15 mm thick board between the gas pedal and the pedal stop. Fix the pedal in this position.



Pull the traction casing "1", fully open the throttle valve and adjust it in this position by moving the locking bracket "2" at the counter support.

Release the gas pedal.



Disconnect the plug from the accelerator switch and connect a digital multimeter to both contacts of the connector block. The switch is located at the rear wall of the engine compartment next to the gas rod.



Measure the resistance. The prescribed value is ∞ (infinity) Ohm.

Slowly press the gas pedal in the direction of increasing load and observe the multimeter reading. Immediately after the moment the accelerator switch is triggered, the resistance should drop to 0 Ohm. The gas pedal should be almost at the very stop.

Otherwise, repeat the adjustment.
