For a diesel engine, change the oil and filter element every 7500 km.
Under severe operating conditions such as short trips, frequent cold starts and extreme dust, the engine oil and oil filter should be changed at shorter intervals.
Attention: In any case, the old oil must be handed over to special waste oil collection points. Oil sales points accept the corresponding amount of old oil for free, so when buying oil, you must keep the receipt and the canister for the subsequent return of the old oil! In addition, the administration of districts and cities informs about where the nearest waste oil collection point is located. Under no circumstances should old oil be simply drained or disposed of with household waste.
Draining engine oil
Warm up the engine to operating temperature (oil temperature +60°С).
Note: Oil can be sucked out of the sump using a probe through the oil level gauge tube. The advantage of this method is that the car does not need to be raised.
Raise the vehicle horizontally, see section «Vehicle lifting».
Place a container under the engine sump to drain the old oil.
Loosen the oil pan drain plug and completely drain the old oil. The plug is located at the very bottom of the oil pan, see above.
After that, wrap the drain plug with a new seal and tighten. The tightening torque for the 4-cylinder engine is 30 Nm and for the 6-cylinder engine is 50 Nm.
Lower the vehicle, see section «Vehicle lifting».
Unscrew the oil filter. To unscrew the oil filter in workshops there is a special tool. If a special tool is not available, a leather belt can be used to unscrew. You can also insert a pointed screwdriver into the filter from the side. When unscrewing, oil immediately begins to pour out - substitute a container.
Filling the engine with oil
Clean the oil filter mounting flange with fuel.
Lightly lubricate the rubber sealing ring of the oil filter with engine oil.
Attention: For a turbocharged diesel engine, when starting for the first time after changing the engine oil, make sure that it initially runs only at idling speed until the low oil pressure warning light goes out. Only then is full oil pressure achieved and gas can be supplied. With a sharp increase in gas and a working low oil pressure indicator, the turbocharger can fail due to insufficient lubrication.
Screw in the new oil filter tightly by hand. Pay attention to the instructions on the oil filter.
Pour new oil through the filler pipe of the cylinder head cover. In principle, it is recommended to first add 1/2 liter less engine oil, start and warm up the engine, and check the oil level after a few minutes. If the oil level on the gauge is in the area -C-, then top up the level.
Attention: The oil level is sufficient if it is somewhere in the area -B- of the pointer shown in the figure. If the level is above area -A-, then there is a risk of damage to the catalytic converter, in this case, suck off excess oil.
The difference in the amount of oil between the marks «check» and «min» on the oil level indicator is 1 liter. The oil level in the engine sump must be between these marks.
After a test drive, check the oil drain plug and oil filter seal for leaks and, if necessary, carefully tighten the seals.
In order to be able to better control the operating conditions of the engine, when changing the oil, always use new oil of the same type and, if possible, the same brand. Therefore, it is advisable to attach a plate to the engine at each oil change, on which to indicate the brand and viscosity of the filled oil.
Alternating indiscriminately the use of different types of oils adversely affects the operation of the engine. Engine oils of the same type, but different brands, should not be mixed if possible. Engine oils of the same type and the same brand, but of different viscosities, can, if necessary, be topped up immediately during the off-season.
