Changing engine oil (VW Beetle)

Engine oil should only be changed with the engine warmed up to operating temperature. To drain the oil, the car must be placed on a flat horizontal surface, raising it on supports. Oil change should be done every 5000 km (in cars produced since September 1981 - every 7500 km(or, in case of low mileage, every 6 months)).



Loosen all the nuts securing the oil drain cover of the oil pan, unscrew 5 nuts.

Using a screwdriver, pry the cover away from the oil pan and allow the oil to drain.

Attention! Every time you change the oil, remove the cap and wash it in gasoline. Do not pump out oil using a probe!

Using new sealing gaskets, screw in and tighten the oil drain cover mounting nuts (don't tighten too tight).



Pour in oil. The oil change volume is 2.5 liters. The oil volume between the "min" and "max" marks on the dipstick is 1.25 liters.

Take the car for a test drive and check to see if any oil is leaking from the oil drain cap. If leaks are detected, tighten the nuts that secure it.

To better control engine operating conditions, use the same type and, if possible, the same brand of oil at each change. To do this, it is advisable to attach a plate to the engine indicating the brand and viscosity of the oil added.

It is not recommended to constantly change the type of engine oil you use. Motor oils of the same type but different brands should not be mixed if possible. If necessary, during seasonal maintenance, you can mix motor oils of the same type and brand, but with different viscosities.

If the vehicle is constantly driven on dusty roads or in countries with cold climates (temperatures do not exceed -20°C for long periods), the engine oil should be changed more often.
