Dynamic oil pressure control (VW Passat B3)

VW PASSAT models are equipped with dynamic oil pressure control. This means that the oil pressure is controlled depending on the engine crankshaft speed.

If the crankshaft speed is less than 2000 1/min and at the same time the oil pressure drops below 0.3 bar, the low oil pressure indicator on the instrument panel flashes. At crankshaft speeds above 2000 1/min, the oil pressure in petrol engines must be at least 1.8 bar (for 6-cylinder engine: 1.4 bar), and in diesel engines - not less than 0.9 bar, otherwise the warning signal flashes again and the buzzer sounds.

If the low oil pressure warning signal is given and the buzzer sounds while driving, stop the engine immediately and check the oil level, top up the oil level if necessary.

If, however, the oil level is OK, but the warning signal continues to appear, then under no circumstances should you continue driving. The car should be towed and, using the diagnostic table, the fault should be identified.
