Mono-Jetronic, engines with the designation RP, IF Mono-Motronic, engines with the designation RP, AAM, ABS, ADZ

Note: Idle speed and CO content must be checked together. Both parameters are not adjustable.

Prerequisite for inspection: The exhaust system has been checked. All pipe connections must be tight.

Warm up the engine until the engine oil temperature is not lower than +80°C.

Turn off all electrical consumers. Turn off the air conditioning system.

Check the oxygen sensor adjustment. To do this, query the memory device, eliminate any existing faults.

Check the ignition timing, see chapter "Ignition system".

Attention: Connect the devices only when the ignition is off.

Connect the crankshaft speed meter according to the service manual.

Connect the CO measuring device to the CO sampling tube in the engine compartment. The CO sampling tube is welded to the front exhaust pipe and is usually closed with a light blue cap.

Attention: Place the measuring instrument hose firmly on the sampling tube and ensure that the connection is tight.

Start the engine and let it idle.

Attention: During testing and adjustment work, the cooling system fan must not operate.

Check the crankshaft speed when idling. Specified values:

Check the crankshaft speed when idling. Specified values:

Check CO content. Prescribed value (for all engines): 0.2-1.2% by volume.

The CO and idle speed values are not adjustable. If they deviate from the specified values, check the intake system in the following order and eliminate the faults. Check all vacuum hoses for porosity and secure connections. Check the tightness of the connection of the flanges of the central injection system and the intake pipes. Then check the activated carbon system for ventilation of the fuel tank (workshop work).

Measuring instruments must be switched off when the ignition is off.
