Exhaust gas toxicity control (VW Passat B3)

Since 1/12/93, regular exhaust gas toxicity testing has been introduced in Germany for vehicles equipped with regulated catalytic converters and diesel engines. The testing must be carried out by workshops that have the appropriate authorization. In particular, the following testing intervals have been established.

• Vehicles without a catalytic converter or with an unregulated catalytic converter: every 12 months after the last inspection.
• Vehicles with regulated catalytic converter or diesel engine: every 24 months after the last inspection. The starting point for the first inspection is the first technical inspection date after 1/12/93.

The test, which must be carried out in accordance with the established standard, requires electronic devices from VW. The instructions given here for checking and adjusting the CO content do not meet the conditions for carrying out an exhaust gas toxicity test.
