- Possibility of cleaning exhaust gases in the catalytic converter, controlled by signals from the oxygen sensor.
- Self-diagnosis of the injection system control unit, which allows for quick detection of defects. Petrol engines in the VW PASSAT, depending on their power, are equipped with three different, significantly different injection systems from BOSCH or VW.

All injection systems operate stably for a long time and require virtually no maintenance. The exception is the air filter, the replaceable element of which must be replaced every 30,000 km, and for cars manufactured since 9/88 - after 60,000 km.
