2E3 carburetor and Mono-Jetronic system
To improve the dynamic properties during engine warm-up, an electric heater is installed in the intake manifold. The heater heats up in a matter of seconds and gives off its heat to the fuel-air mixture. The heater consists of the actual heating element (hedgehog) and a thermal switch located at the coolant pipe on the cylinder head, see below. Prerequisite for testing: the engine must be cold (ambient temperature)
Disconnect heater plug. To do this, press the metal clip with a screwdriver and pull out the plug. Connect an ohmmeter to the heater wire and ground. The resistance of the heating element must be 0.25-0.50 Ohm, otherwise the heating element must be replaced.
Checking the thermal switch
The thermal switch is located at the coolant pipe on the cylinder head and has a red insulation.
Connect an ohmmeter to the switch contacts. Prescribed resistance value: at temperatures below +55°C - approx. 0 Ohm; at temperatures above +65°С—∞ Ohm.
