Diesel engines, except turbocharged engines
The diesel engines of VW PASSAT vehicles are equipped with a cold start aid. The drive rod moves the piston of the injection advance system in the high-pressure fuel pump in the injection advance direction by approximately 2.5°. This improves cold engine starting. During repair work, the drive rod should be connected as follows:
Move the washer (1) to the tension of the drive. Insert the drive rod through the rubber bushing in the counter support at the high-pressure fuel pump. At the same time, insert the rod wire into the support pin (3).
Insert the locking bracket (2).
Set the traction lever to the "O" position by pressing the lever all the way in the direction of the arrow.

Pull the traction wire tightly and secure with the locking bolt (3).
