The engine oil pressure can be checked using a pressure gauge, which should be equipped with a connection element that allows it to be used instead of the oil pressure switch.
A second oil pressure switch connected to a signal buzzer is installed in this type of engine. If the oil pressure drops below 0.3 bar, the 0.3 bar oil pressure switch will close and the oil pressure warning lamp will light. If the oil pressure drops below 1.8 bar and the engine speed remains above 2150 rpm for more than one second, the 1.8 bar oil pressure switch contacts will open. The warning lamp will light and the buzzer will sound.
Check the oil level and adjust it if necessary.
Turn on the ignition. The oil pressure warning light should come on.
Start the engine. The oil pressure warning light should go out.
Pull the cable out of the oil pressure switch (0.3 bar) (brown insulation) and press the end of the cable to the body. The oil pressure indicator light should light up.
Reinsert the plug from the oil pressure switch (1.8 bar) (white insulation).
Keep the engine running at over 2500 rpm for at least one second. The oil pressure warning light should come on and the buzzer should sound. The above checks will ensure that the oil pressure switches are working properly. A pressure gauge used by Volkswagen is provided to monitor the oil pressure.
Proceed as follows.
Turn off the oil pressure switch (0.3 bar) (brown insulation) from the cylinder head and screw into the pressure control device.
Connect blue cable 1 to the oil pressure switch.
Screw the pressure control device into the engine in place of the switch.
Connect test lamp 2 as shown in the figure to the cable and the positive terminal of the battery.
Attach cable 3 to the body.
Turn on the ignition.
Check if the lamp lights up, if not, replace the switch.
Start the engine and observe the pressure control device. When the indication is 0.3+0.1 bar, the control lamp should go out. Otherwise, replace the switch.
To check the oil pressure switch (1.8 bar), the following work must be carried out.
Start the engine and slowly increase the speed.
Check that the indicator lamp lights up at a pressure of 1.6-2.0 bar. Otherwise, replace the oil pressure switch.
Start the engine and let it run until operating temperature is reached.
Increase the rotation speed to 2000 rpm oil pressure drops below 1.8 bar, repair or replace the oil pump. The alarm buzzer will sound if the oil pressure is not too low.
