1 - traction rod
2 - clamp with safety pin
3 - handle
On fig. the reverse side of the removed injection pump is shown, the control rod (4) cold start accelerator mounted on a support with a rubber bushing (2) and with two intermediate washers (1), and secured with a safety washer (3). The rod itself is attached to the control arm with a screw clamp (5).
If the thrust of the cold start accelerator is out of order, then this does not create any special problems. A cold engine starts by itself at low ambient temperatures - sometimes reluctantly and with smoke, despite the fact that any damage occurs. True, in extreme cold it may be that without a cold start accelerator, starting is not possible.
In this case, it can be helped if the cold start accelerator lever on the injection pump is fixed in "elongated" position with wire. After a few minutes of running the engine, the wire can be removed.
Caution: Absurd but true: in extreme cold, the principle is reversed: a diesel starts better when the cold start accelerator remains recessed before the engine actually starts. Then, to reduce smoke - immediately after starting, a particularly unpleasant blue smoke appears, you need to pull the draft.
Replacing the cold start accelerator rod
Loosen and remove the safety washer on the stop.
Remove left lower instrument panel cover.
Pull off the T-handle clamp. Unscrew the handle.
Loosen the ring nut on the recess in the instrument panel.
Pull the pull down.
Now pull the rod all the way into the cabin.
When installing the rod, carefully pull it through the shell in the passenger compartment.
Cold start accelerator thrust adjustment
Loosen the clamping bolt of the retaining clamp on the front of the injection pump.
Fully push the cold start accelerator handle on the dashboard.
Pull the traction wire forward.
Make sure that the injection pump control lever is forward against the stop.
Tighten the clamping bolt again.
