In the system under consideration, each cylinder has an injection valve. The installation is built into the Golf model with a 2-liter engine. In this installation, injection and ignition are controlled by a single control mechanism. It receives all the information about the current engine load, so the required amount of fuel to be injected, the duration of the injection, and the appropriate ignition timing can be determined precisely.

As with the injection system built into the VR6 model, this is an electronic engine system that performs computer control of injection timing, ignition timing, idle speed and CO content.

Safety precautions when working with the injection system



Before unscrewing the lug nuts, clean them and the surrounding areas thoroughly.

Place the dismantled parts on a clean surface and cover them well with paper or synthetic material. Do not use fibrous rags for this. Also, do not touch the connecting elements of the parts with greasy hands, preventing foreign bodies from entering the system.

Removed parts that will not be immediately reinstalled should be placed in a box or other container and stored properly.

New parts should only be removed from the packaging immediately prior to installation

If the system's connecting elements have been opened, do not use compressed air to blow out other parts. If possible, do not move the vehicle. Always cover open connecting elements well to prevent any foreign bodies from getting into the system.



Since the electronic part of the integrated injection system works in conjunction with the ignition system, the following precautions must be taken when working on the system to avoid damage and/or breakage of parts.

When disconnecting and connecting electrical cables of the ignition system, injection system or measuring instruments, it is essential to switch off the ignition.

If you need to test the engine using the starter without starting it (for example, when checking compression pressure), you should pull out the middle cable (terminal 4) from the ignition distributor and connect it to the body. A connecting wire is best suited for this.

When starting with a quick starter, do not apply voltage greater than 16.5 V; do not use the starter for more than one minute.

When cleaning the engine with liquid cleaner, turn off the ignition to avoid short circuit.

When carrying out welding work on a vehicle (regardless of the type of welding) always disconnect the cable from both battery terminals.

When towing a vehicle with a faulty ignition system or injection system, the ignition switch must be disconnected.

Idle speed and CO content regulation



Special test equipment is required to check the idle speed and CO content. Idle speed and CO content cannot be adjusted, but their parameters can be changed. Since special equipment used in Volkswagen workshops is not available, the following instructions should be regarded as unavoidable auxiliary measures, for the implementation of which, however, a certain amount of knowledge is required.


Bring the engine to operating temperature. All electrical consumers should be disconnected. The fan should also not work, the exhaust system should not be leaky.

Attach a tachometer and CO indicator according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Start the engine and let it idle.

Briefly increase engine speed to 3000 rpm three times and then decrease it.

Check the RPM and CO content. If the engine RPM is not 770-870 rpm or the CO content is not within 0.2-1.2%. You should contact a workshop. The reasons may be in the idle speed stabilization valve, in a leaky air intake system, in the lambda control device or even in the lambda probe.
