1. Raise the front of the car and place it on stands. Apply the handbrake.

2. With the gear selector handle in neutral, mark the relative positions of the longitudinal shaft and the connector, then loosen the connector clamp and remove the longitudinal shaft.

4. Loosen the nuts of the ball joint socket and remove the gear selection mechanism upwards completely. Save the spacers.

5. Disassemble the mechanism, if necessary, and check the elements for wear and damage. Replace if necessary.

6. Lubricate the joints and bearing surface with high-melting-point grease, then install them in the reverse order of disassembly. If a new joint is installed, it must be adjusted. To do this, with the joint disconnected and the gearbox in neutral, use the help of a second person who must hold the gear selector lever in neutral (free) position between third and fourth speeds (i.e. halfway between forward and backward, right and left movement). Connect the elongated shaft to the connector while holding the gear selector lever in the same position, and then tighten the clamp bolt.
