2. Check the ignition timing and adjust if necessary.
3. The headlights must be connected (except for models of cars equipped with air conditioning). Disconnect and plug the elastic air bleed pipe from the main engine crankcase from the valve cover.
4. For models equipped with air conditioning, the system must be turned off during checking and adjustment.
5. If the injector tubes were disconnected or replaced with new ones just before checking and adjusting the idle speed, it is necessary to increase the engine speed to 3000 rpm. And then let the engine idle for 2 minutes before checking or adjusting the idle speed.
6. If it is necessary to adjust the idle speed, remove the safety cap from the adjusting screw 18 on the throttle body 7, and by turning this screw set the idle speed value according to the technical data (figure 3.52).
Figure 3.52. Intake system of a gasoline injection engine
1 - Air filter insert; 2 - gasket; 3 - mixture composition adjustment bolt (under the plug) 4 - plug 5 - air flow meter, b - suction pipe; 7 - throttle body; 6 - gasket; 4 - low pressure equipment for increasing rotation speed. 10 - drive manifold; 11 - branch pipe to the fuel regulator; 12 - branch pipe to servo mechanism; 13 - Electrical connection (black); 14 - additional air valve; 15 - branch pipe to the head; 16 - manifold gasket; 17 - O-ring type sealing ring; 18 - idle speed adjusting bolt; 19 - idle speed control valve under load.
Adjustment should only be made when the electric radiator fan is not running.
7. If an exhaust gas analyzer is available, check the carbon monoxide content of the exhaust gas and compare it with the technical data. Adjust the exhaust gas composition if necessary.
8. Air-conditioned car models are also equipped with a valve for adjusting the idle speed under load, and in some cases — a second valve for increasing the idle speed.
