Idle speed

9. Connect the tachometer to the engine in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

10. The engine must be at normal operating temperature.

11. All electrical consumers (headlights, heater, etc.) must be turned off.

12. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose and pinch it from the air filter side.

13. Open the air damper (push the choke handle all the way in).

14. Disconnect the exhaust gas afterburning system hose (if any) from the air intake tube and pinch it.

15. Check the ignition timing.

16. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.

17. Check that the idle speed corresponds to the specified one.

18. If necessary, adjust the idle speed using the quantity screw.

Composition of the mixture

Note: The mixture composition can only be adjusted correctly if a gas analyzer is available. If you don't have one, you should contact a specialist.

19. Adjust idle speed (see above).

20. Turning the adjusting screw (see Figure 13.25) achieve the desired CO content in the exhaust gases.

21. Once finished, adjust the idle speed again (if required).

General part

22. After completing both operations, connect all hoses and disconnect the devices used.

23. For instructions on connecting hoses, see. in the relevant paragraphs devoted to regulating idle speed and mixture composition on a 2.4 L engine.

Fast idle speed control

24. The engine must be at normal operating temperature.

25. Idle speed must be adjusted correctly.

26. Pull the choke handle out completely.

27. The air damper control lever should touch the stop (see Figure 13.26).

28. The mark on the stepped disc should coincide with the middle of the adjusting screw or be slightly higher than it.

29. If necessary, loosen the screw and ensure that the mark (shown by the arrow in the figure13.26) took the indicated position.

30. Start the engine without touching the gas pedal and let it run at fast idle.

31. Check that the fast idle speed corresponds to the specified value.

32. If necessary, adjust the fast idle speed using screw (2).
