Adjustment
1. If there is a lot of play in the steering gear, which is detected by a knocking noise while driving, the gear must be adjusted as described below.
2. Using a jack, lift the front of the car and place it on stands.
3. With the front wheels in the straight ahead position, tighten the adjusting bolt by 20° (approximately) (photo 9.14).

4. Lower the car and test it on the road. If the steering wheel does not return to the center position after turning, it is necessary to unscrew the adjusting bolt by a small angle until the steering wheel returns to the center position on its own. The reason for the steering wheel not returning is a very large resistance in the transmission after tightening the bolt.
5. If, however, during driving it turns out that the steering gear has very large backlashes, it is necessary to gradually tighten the adjusting bolt again to eliminate the backlash.
6. If the described adjustment method is not sufficient, the transmission is worn and must be removed for inspection.
