Checking the power steering oil level (VW Transporter T4)

Required special tool: not required.

Hydraulic oil "G 002 000" is purchased at a service station.

The hydraulic oil expansion tank is located on the right under the hood in the direction of travel. The fluid level can be seen on the tank wall.

1. Set the front wheels straight.

2. Start the engine and let it idle.

2. Start the engine and let it idle.


3. The oil level when the engine is running should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the wall of the expansion tank.

4. If the oil level has dropped to the MIN mark, you need to check the power steering at a service station to see if there is an oil leak.

5. You can only top up with "Hydraulic oil G 002 000". Only fill in new oil, as even minor contamination can cause a malfunction of the hydraulic system.
