Checking the tension of the V-belt
Checking the tension of the V-belt is part of the maintenance of the entire cooling system.
If the belt slips, then a whistle appears when the accelerator pedal is pressed sharply after idling. V-belt slippage can adversely affect the cooling system.
Press firmly with your finger on the V-belt between the belt pulleys at the crankshaft and at the generator.
If the tension is correct, then the belt should bend 5 mm.
The new V-belt should sag 2 mm.
And otherwise tighten the V-belt (see section "V-belt tension", chapter "Generator").
Cracked V-Belt
If you continue to drive without the V-belt and without the water pump drive, you risk overheating the engine!
There is little to no coolant circulating through the engine without a water pump.
You can read about installing a new V-belt and for help in extreme cases in the section "Removal and installation of a wedge-shaped belt", chapter "Generator".
Instruction. Never drive further with a cracked V-belt. Keep a spare with you in case of need (its dimensions are 9.5x875).
