How often to change oil

If you drive a diesel Volkswagen mainly on long highways, you will not need to strictly adhere to the 7,500 km oil change interval. Sometimes, without damage, this interval can be as long as 9,000 km. If additional oil is added to the engine during the intervals between changes, it is renewed. If the car only drives short routes (for example, in the city), then you will have to change the oil more often. If the engine does not reach full operating temperature due to short routes, the output of combustion deposits and fuel condensate becomes greater, especially in winter. Seasonal oil change (before and after the winter months) it is important for those owners who have filled their engines with inexpensive seasonal oil that is not suitable for the following season.

What equipment will be required?

The following devices make life easier for the owner who changes the oil on his own:

A tub for draining oil. You can use a plastic oil can of the appropriate volume, cutting off its side wall.
The canister with old oil serves to collect it.
A large funnel makes pouring oil easier.
Of course, fresh engine oil is necessary. It should be purchased in accordance with specifications.
Oil filter and wrench with tension band for disconnecting the filter.
Seal for drain plug thread.

Changing engine oil

The oil should be changed when the engine is in a warm, working condition. Only in this way will all sediments be washed out of the oil bath of the engine sump.

Place a drain tub (see picture below) under the engine.
Unscrew the oil drain plug and let the oil drain.
Re-tighten the plug with a new sealing ring (tightening torque is 30 Nm).
Every other oil change, the oil filter should be changed (see below).
