Part of the oil in the engine burns out during operation. Thus, oil consumption is quite natural. As a rule, 0.5 liters per 1000 kilometers is sufficient for a diesel engine. Firm "Volkswagen" set the consumption rate as the maximum allowable value: 1.5 liters per 1000 km. How much oil will your car need? It depends on the following circumstances:
Overfilling with oil causes a greater consumption of oil, since the crankcase ventilation tube sucks excess oil through the intake pipe into the combustion chambers.
Viscous oil burns faster than thick oil. Summer or winter oil in a hot state becomes liquid, like water. All-weather thickened oil remains viscous. When driving on long highways, all-weather oil can help reduce oil waste.
Oil (first of all all-weather), which works too long in the engine, requires additional refreshment with special additives.
The dynamic nature of driving requires higher fuel and engine oil consumption. This is especially pronounced when the new engine is immediately fully loaded.
During break-in, oil consumption can be high.
Engine leaks. Leakage control is carried out according to the description given further in the text.
Defects in the engine. For example, defective valve stem seals; play between valve guide and valve stem is too large; piston rings are incorrectly installed or they have defects; the cylinder wall is damaged; piston wear.
