Regular and Intermediate Maintenance
For Volkswagen models, depending on the year of manufacture, different maintenance instructions apply. For cars manufactured before 1982 (inclusive) they are as follows:
- intermediate maintenance, including oil change - after 7500 km of run;
- regular maintenance - after 15,000 km or no later than 1 year;
- regular maintenance, including additional work, is carried out every 30,000 km.
For vehicles manufactured after August 1982, no intermediate maintenance is performed; only an oil change is performed after 7,500 km.
Time or kilometer interval?
Even a vehicle that is not in use is subject to ageing. Therefore, regular maintenance should be carried out annually, even if 15,000 km have not yet been covered. This is entirely justified, since in the course of one year, for example, one cuff may lose its elasticity, as a result of which dirt may penetrate into the drive joint or steering gear. If the requirements of annual maintenance are not taken into account, it may be necessary to carry out expensive repairs.

The same applies to oil changes. An engine that runs for a short time with low mileage in the city collects significantly more condensate and dirt than an engine that runs for a long time on country roads. This causes significant damage to the lubricating properties of the oil. Oil changes should be made no later than after 6 months.
