Volkswagen service intervals vary for service with an engine oil change (e.g. service at certain intervals) and no engine oil change (e.g. inspection service). The maintenance indicator only tells you when the engine oil needs to be changed. Information on the terms of other types of maintenance, for example, on the date of the next inspection service or on the date of replacement of the brake fluid, is indicated on a sticker on the car rack or in the service book.
For vehicles serviced by mileage or time, fixed service intervals are set.
For vehicles with LongLife service, service intervals are determined on an individual basis. The introduction of technical advances can significantly reduce the need for car maintenance. With the introduction of the LongLife regulation, the Volkswagen Group is introducing a new maintenance technology in which the vehicle is serviced only when it is really needed. At the same time, the definition of the service interval (maximum two years) It is carried out taking into account the specific operating conditions of the car and the characteristics of the driving style. The next maintenance warning appears for the first time 20 days before the next maintenance. The remaining mileage displayed is rounded up to 100 km, the remaining time is rounded up to the whole day. The remaining interval until the next service can only be requested after driving 500 km since the previous service. Up to this point, only strokes are shown on the display.
Reminder for upcoming maintenance
When a service interval is nearing, a service reminder will appear on the display when the ignition is switched on.
In vehicles without the possibility of issuing text messages, an icon with the image of a wrench and the mileage in km appear on the display of the instrument cluster. The indicated value corresponds to the mileage in km that can be driven before the next maintenance. After a few seconds, the image changes. A clock icon appears, indicating the number of days until the next service.
On vehicles with text messaging capability, the message service in ---km or ---days appears in the instrument cluster display.
Maintenance due date
When the service interval is due, an audible signal sounds when the ignition is switched on and a flashing wrench icon appears on the display for a few seconds. On vehicles with text messaging capability, the message Service required appears in the instrument cluster display.
Request an interval until the next maintenance
When the ignition is switched on with the vehicle stationary and the engine off, an upcoming service request can be made as follows:
- Press the button in the instrument cluster until the wrench icon appears
- OR: select the Settings menu.
- In the Service section, select Information.
With an overdue maintenance, the mileage in km or the period in days are displayed with a minus sign. On vehicles with text messaging capability, the display in the instrument cluster shows the message Service overdue ---km or ---days.
Resetting the maintenance indicator
If the service was not carried out at a Volkswagen workshop, the service indicator can be reset as follows:
The maintenance indicator cannot be reset between service visits, as after that it will display incorrect information about the upcoming maintenance.
If the maintenance indicator is reset manually during an actual LongLife service, the maintenance mode is activated «service indication by time or mileage». In this case, the service interval is calculated without taking into account the individual characteristics of the vehicle operation.
The maintenance message disappears after a few seconds with the engine running or after pressing a key (OK).
If the battery of a LongLife serviced vehicle has been disconnected for an extended period of time, it is not possible to calculate the time until the next service. The maintenance indicator may give incorrect readings. In this case, you should focus on the maximum allowable service interval.
