Information about upcoming maintenance is displayed on the display in the instrument cluster.

Volkswagen service intervals vary for service with engine oil change (for example, service at certain intervals) and without changing the engine oil (for example, inspection service). The service indicator only informs about the time when the engine oil needs to be changed. Information about the time when other types of maintenance are due, such as the time when the next inspection service is due or when the brake fluid needs to be changed, is indicated on a sticker on the car's pillar or in the service book.

For vehicles with mileage or time-based servicing, fixed service intervals are established.

For vehicles with LongLife maintenance, service intervals are determined individually. The introduction of technical advances allows for a significant reduction in the vehicle's need for maintenance. By introducing the LongLife regulation, the Volkswagen Group is introducing a new maintenance technology, in which vehicle maintenance is performed only when it is really necessary. In this case, the definition of the service interval (maximum two years) is carried out taking into account the specific operating conditions of the vehicle and the driving style. The warning about the upcoming maintenance appears for the first time 20 days before the next maintenance. The displayed remaining mileage is rounded up to 100 km, the remaining time - to a whole day. The remaining interval until the next maintenance can only be requested after a mileage of 500 km since the previous maintenance. Until this moment, only dashes are displayed on the display.

Upcoming Maintenance Reminder

When the due date for maintenance approaches, a reminder of the upcoming maintenance appears on the display when the ignition is turned on.

In vehicles without the text messaging capability, a wrench icon and the mileage in km appear on the instrument cluster display. This value corresponds to the mileage in km that can be driven until the next maintenance. After a few seconds, the image changes. A clock icon appears indicating the number of days until the next maintenance.

In vehicles with text messaging capability, the message service in ---km or ---days appears on the instrument cluster display.

The maintenance deadline has arrived

When the service deadline has arrived, an audible signal sounds and a flashing spanner icon appears on the display for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on. In vehicles with text message capability, the message Service required appears on the instrument cluster display.

Request interval until next maintenance

When the ignition is turned on with the vehicle stationary and the engine off, you can request an upcoming service as follows:
  • Press the button in the instrument cluster until the wrench icon appears
  • OR: Select the Settings menu.
  • In the Service section, select Information.

If the maintenance is overdue, the mileage in km or the period in days is displayed with a minus sign. In cars with the ability to display text messages, the message Maintenance overdue ---km or ---days appears on the instrument cluster display.

Resetting the maintenance indicator

If the service was not carried out at a Volkswagen service station, the service indicator can be reset as follows:

If the service was not carried out at a Volkswagen service station, the service indicator can be…

The maintenance indicator must not be reset between service visits, as it will then display incorrect information about the upcoming maintenance.

If the maintenance indicator is reset manually during actual LongLife maintenance, the "service indication by time or mileage" mode is activated. In this case, the service interval is calculated without taking into account the individual characteristics of vehicle operation.

The maintenance message disappears after a few seconds with the engine running or after pressing the (OK) key.

If the battery of a vehicle serviced under the LongLife regulations has been disconnected for a long time, then it is impossible to calculate the time until the next maintenance. The maintenance indicator may then give incorrect readings. In this case, you should focus on the maximum permissible service interval.
