Checking the voltage regulator
Turn on the ignition.
Remove the plug from the coolant temperature sensor in the engine compartment.
Connect the voltmeter clamps between the stabilizer terminal and "weight".
Should be exactly 10 V.
If the value is less than 9.5 V or more than 10.5 V, then the voltage regulator is defective
Replacing the voltage regulator
Remove the instrument panel and put "front side" down.
Remove voltage stabilizer.
Pull the stabilizer out of the board connections.
When the onboard voltage is reduced to the desired value, heat is released. For perfect heat dissipation, the voltage regulator must have good contact with the metal.
Pre-March 1977 models: The silver-metal cooling surface of the stabilizer must rest against the metal housing of the tachometer.
Post-March 1977 models: for cooling, a metal plate is screwed onto the tachometer body or there is a special metal cooling sheet over the tachometer.
