Remove the radio glove box.
Using your hand, disconnect the speedometer shaft through the cutout.
If you cannot get to the shaft in this way, then you need to remove the left instrument panel cover or the left glove compartment (see chapter "Salon").
For models produced before July 1981: on the back of the speedometer, unscrew the knurled nut; use pliers if necessary.
On models produced after August 1981: disengage the plastic retaining clips on the back of the speedometer; to do this, turn the shaft guard a little.
In a car with a manual transmission, in the engine compartment, on the top left side behind the gearbox, unscrew the hex head or Phillips head screw (near the metal sheet).
In a car with an automatic transmission, loosen the union nut.
On all models: remove the speedometer shaft from its holders.
Pull the shaft towards the engine compartment.
The shaft near the connection must not be oiled.
The original can be seen on the portal (VWmanual.ru)
When installing, the shaft should not be bent too much, otherwise it will soon become defective again.
Therefore, when you mount the shaft, you need to remove the instrument panel. Do not press hard on the shaft.
