To "Volkswagen" did not turn out to be completely without electricity due to some kind of defect, the fuses are distributed in various current circuits. But the connections between the starter, battery, alternator and ignition switch are not controlled by fuses. All other consumers have their own fuses
Conventional fuses (release before July 1982)
A narrow metal strip on a plastic or ceramic part is a bridge for the flow of electric current. When installing a new fuse, do not touch its metal strip. If the fuse belongs to a current circuit that is constantly energized, and the short circuit in this circuit is not eliminated, the following may happen: the metal strip immediately heats up and melts, the circuit opens.
No electrical current due to oxidation
If the current circuit has failed, it can sometimes be because the locking tabs of the corresponding fuse have oxidized and are blocking the flow of current. Take out the fuse.
Flatten the clamping tabs (squeeze).
Re-insert the fuse and turn several times so that the contact surfaces of the compressed tongues get used.
Fuses manufactured after September 1976
The numbers shown in the illustration and the stamped numbers on the lid of the fuse box indicate where fuses 1-15 are located in the central part of the electrical equipment (the execution is the same, that is, not the newest). In the illustration: the N7 fuse was removed and, using a test lamp, checked whether the upper tab of the fuse receives a constant electric current. Arrow points to additional fuse box
Flat plug fuses manufactured after August 1982
In the central part of the electrical equipment (relay and fuse box), installed after August 1982, so-called flat fuses are used instead of conventional fuses.
Two flat plugs are pressed into a transparent one-color plastic part, connected by a fusible thread. These fuses have significantly larger contact surfaces compared to previous fuses, so there are no problems due to corrosion. For dismantling and mounting flat fuses in the central part of the electrical equipment there is a small plastic tongue.
To fuses with flat plugs (release after August 1982) can be penetrated after removing the left lower trim of the dashboard. The photo shows the order of placement of fuses from 1 to 22.
Fuse for radio
In the positive wire to the car radio, there is sometimes another additional fuse located in a plastic sleeve. This special glass fuse has a metal strip inside and is typically rated at 2A.
When dismantling parts of the plastic sleeve, press towards each other and at the same time turn slightly (the so-called bayonet lock).
Dismantle the bushing parts: remove the old fuse.
