In-line fuel filter - replacement
The fuel filter is installed on the fuel line connecting the fuel tank to the fuel pump (pic. A:10). Fuel hoses are tightly put on the filter nozzles and can be (not necessary) additionally secured with clamps. On injection engines, the fuel pipes are attached to the filter with hollow bolts. Replace the filter in the following order:
- 1. Disconnect the wire "masses" from the battery and place a suitable container under the filter.
- 2. Loosen the clamps and remove the hoses from the filter nozzles. On injection engines, unscrew the bolts and disconnect the tubes.
- 3. Inspect hose ends for cracks or breaks. If the ends of the hoses are torn, carefully cut off the torn part as far as the length of the hose will allow. Connect the hoses to the new filter, making sure that the arrow on the filter housing matches the direction of fuel flow (those. directed towards the carburetor). On injector models, secure the tubes with hollow bolts.
- 4. Replace and tighten the clamps.
- 5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
Fuel pump filter - cleaning
To gain access to the filter, you need to unscrew the screw in the center of the pump cover and remove the cover (pic. A:11). Before removing the cover, clean the pump so that dirt does not get inside. Remove the filter and wash it with clean gasoline. If the filter mesh is clogged or torn, replace the filter.
Reassemble in reverse order; do not overtighten the cover screw. Start the engine and check for leaks.
