Cars with a catalytic converter in the exhaust system
Engine 55 kW. Unleaded gasoline, octane number not less than 91.
Engines 66 and 110 kW. Unleaded gasoline, octane number not less than 95
85 kW engines. Unleaded petrol, octane rating 95 or 91. Using petrol with an octane rating of 91 results in a slight loss of engine power.
Engine 128 kW. Unleaded petrol with an octane rating of at least 95. When using unleaded petrol with an octane rating of 98, the engine develops greater torque at the same rated power.
Engine 135 kW. Unleaded petrol, octane number 98.
Unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 95 may be used without restrictions. Correction of the ignition timing depending on the fuel quality (octane correction) is carried out automatically, but under unfavorable operating conditions this may lead to a slight loss of power. The loss of power can be partially compensated by using gasoline with an octane rating of 98.
Cars without catalyst
Carburetor engine 66 kW. Unleaded or leaded gasoline, octane number not less than 95.
Carburetor engine 85 kW. Unleaded or leaded petrol, 95 or 91 octane. Using 91 octane petrol may cause a slight loss of power.
Instructions:
- Unleaded fuel must comply with DIN 51 607 or DIN 51 600.
- If for any reason the tank is filled with fuel with an octane rating lower than that required by the engine, the engine should run primarily at medium speeds and with a light load.
- Under heavy load or high RPM, severe detonation can cause engine damage. Refuel with fuel of the required octane rating as soon as possible.
- Fuel with an octane number higher than recommended can be used without restrictions, but this does not provide any advantages in terms of engine power or fuel consumption.
- Vehicles with a catalytic converter should only be fueled with unleaded fuel.
- Even one fill with fuel containing tetraethyl lead worsens the performance of the catalytic converter. In cars with an oxygen sensor, it also affects the formation of the combustible mixture.
- In order to protect the environment and your own health, it is recommended that vehicles without a catalytic converter also be filled with unleaded fuel whenever possible.
Supplements
The performance, power and service life of the engine are largely determined by the quality of the fuel. Of particular importance in this case are the additives (additives). Therefore, it is recommended to refuel only with high-quality gasoline containing additives.
In case of fuel system malfunctions (for example, the engine starts poorly, stalls at idle, or loses power) sometimes special additives that need to be mixed with gasoline help. These additives are designed to protect against corrosion, clean the fuel system, and remove deposits (carbon) from the engine.
Not all existing gasoline additives have proven themselves to be effective. At Volkswagen service stations, you can buy additives that have passed factory tests and are recommended for use by car manufacturers, as well as information on their use.
