The intake and exhaust camshafts, like the 1.2 liter engine, are located in the crankcase, which is bolted to the cylinder head.
A distinctive feature of this engine is the obliquely located oil filter housing built into the timing mechanism.

Replace if damaged.

10 — a bolt of fastening of a head of cylinders
Always replace the bolt with a new one.
Tighten the cylinder head bolts in three steps. In each step, tighten the bolts in sequence from 1 to 10.
Reception 1: 30 Nm.
Reception 2: tighten in the tightening direction by 90 (¼ turn).
Reception 3: tighten in the tightening direction by 90 (¼ turn).
11 - pressure lever with roller
Check the roller bearing for ease of movement. Lubricate the work surface. During installation, fasten to the compensation support using a retaining clip.
12 - support element
Do not swap during installation. Lubricate the work surface.
13 - guide pins
14 - hydraulic switch, 25 Nm
For pressure 0.3-0.7 bar.
If a leak is found, cut off the sealing ring and replace it.
15 - cylinder head
The flatness must not exceed 0.05 mm. The minimum allowed height is 108.25 mm. After replacement, change all coolant.
16 — a sealing lining of a head of cylinders
Always replace with a new one. After replacement, change all coolant.

19 - bolt, 20 Nm
20 - camshaft housing
Remove any old sealant.
Before installing, apply VW-Dl 88003A1 sealant thinly and evenly to the clean sealing surface of the camshaft housing (highlighted in gray). When installing, carefully move vertically from top to bottom on the studs and guide pins.
21 - poppet pusher
Lubricate the work surface.
22 - sealing ring
Always replace. Lubricate with engine oil before installation.
23 - high pressure pump
For fuel supply. With built-in fuel pressure control valve.
