1.2-litre AZQ petrol engine producing 47 kW (64 hp); 1.4 litre AXU direct injection petrol engine producing 63 kW (86 hp)



1 - cylinder head with camshaft housing

1 - cylinder head with camshaft housing
Do not treat the sealing surfaces. The camshaft bearings are built-in. Apply sealant AMV 188 001 02 from the VW concern before installation.
When installing vertically from above, insert the mounting pins into the holes in the cylinder head.

2 — cylinder block
Connected to the crankcase with bolts.

Caution: Do not loosen the crankcase mounting bolts. Loosening the bolts will cause deformation of the bearing beds in the cylinder block and crankcase. If the bearing cap mounting bolts have been loosened, the cylinder block, crankcase and crankshaft must be replaced as a complete set.


3 — balancing mechanism shaft

4 - gear

For the balance shaft.

5 - oil pump
Replace only as a complete unit.

6 - guide pins, 20 Nm

7 — damper bar

For roller chain.

8 - asterisk
For crankshaft.

9 - asterisk
To drive the oil pump.

10 - roller chain
Before removing, mark the direction of movement (mounting position).

11 - asterisk
For oil pump.

12 — engine sump
Before installation, thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces. Install with silicone sealant D 176 404 A2 from the VW Group. The sealant bead thickness should be 2...3 mm. After applying the sealant, install the pan no later than 5 minutes later. After installation, allow the sealant to harden for about 30 minutes, only then pour in the engine oil.

13 — bolt, 15 Nm

14 — bolt, 8 Nm

15 — lid

16 — bolt, 20 Nm + 90° (¼ turn)

17 — bearing sleeve

18 — crankshaft belt pulley


19 — bolt, 90 Nm + 90° (¼ turn)
Always replace with a new one. Lubricate the bolt before installation. When tightening, lock the belt pulley with the VW-3415 tool or a regular stopper.

20 — bolt, 25 Nm

21 — bolt, 45 Nm

22 — bolt, 10 Nm

23 - to the intake manifold

24 — bolt, 10 Nm


25 - oil separator
With vacuum valve.

26 - sealing ring
If damaged, replace with a new one.

27 — timing gear housing
Install with sealant D 176 404 A2 from the VW group.
Before installation, to ensure a better fit, it is recommended to screw two M6x75 guide studs into the cylinder head and block, and tighten the engine sump with two bolts.

28 — lid

29 - sealing ring

If damaged, replace with a new one.

30 — bolts, 50 Nm +90° (¼ turn)
Tightening torque for AWY engine with a displacement of 1.2 l: 20 Nm + 90°.

31 — tensioner bar

32 — chain tensioner, 40 Nm

33 — bolt, 15 Nm

34 - roller chain


35 - chain sprockets
For camshafts.

36 — bolt, 15 Nm

37 — damper bar

38 - washers
