Petrol engine AUA/BBY/AUB/BBZ with a working volume of 1.4 l and a power of 55/74 kW
Remove the air filter housing.
Remove the upper timing belt cover.

Turn the crankshaft in the direction of its rotation, i.e. clockwise, until the mark on the belt pulley coincides with the edge of the "0" mark. Before turning the crankshaft, shift the gearbox to neutral and apply the handbrake.
Turn the crankshaft by the central bolt securing the belt pulley using a strongly bent ring spanner or a 19 mm socket head with internal splines.

The original information is posted on the website (VWManual)
Caution: Do not turn the crankshaft using the camshaft timing gear mounting bolt. This will put the timing belt under extreme tension.
The holes for fixing in the camshaft gears must coincide with the mounting holes in the crankcase of the "arrow" camshafts.
Note: If the locking holes in the camshaft gears are on opposite sides of the gears, the crankshaft must be turned in the direction of its rotation by one more revolution.
