A camshaft mounted on the cylinder head drives 8 vertical valves via hydraulic poppet lifters. The camshaft is driven by a toothed belt from the crankshaft of the engine. Backlashes in the actuators of the respective valves are automatically compensated by hydraulic poppets. Thus, the need to adjust the gaps as part of maintenance is eliminated.
SDI Diesel Engine: High Pressure Fuel Pump (injection pump) distribution type flange-van on the side of the cylinder block and is driven through a toothed belt. SDI - Saug-Diesel mit Direkt Injection - naturally aspirated diesel engine with direct carburetion.
PD-TDI diesel engine: Diesel fuel is injected via unit injectors. To do this, a pump-injector is installed on each cylinder, which combines a plunger pair of a fuel pump, a metering valve and a fuel injection nozzle. The fuel supply is carried out by a booster pump located in the fuel tank and a dual pump flanged to the cylinder head and driven from the camshaft. The diesel engine with unit injectors is also equipped with a turbocharger. PD - Pumpe-Diise-Einspritzszstem - injection system with pump nozzles; TDI - Turbodiesel-Direkt-Injection - diesel engine with gas turbine supercharging and direct mixing.
