In addition to the basic set of tools, you will need the following:

• Hydrometer for measuring the density of coolant.
• Hydrometer for measuring the density of battery electrolyte.
• A special belt or chain wrench for unscrewing the oil filter.
• An accurate tire pressure gauge - ideally you should have one in your car at all times so you can check your tire pressure weekly.

Owners of cars with automatic transmissions find it very useful to have a funnel to pour transmission fluid through the dipstick tube.

If the work requires raising the vehicle off the ground, safe lifting equipment such as a portable ramp or hydraulic jack with support stands is required.
