Removal and installation of the engine are carried out as indicated in the section «Petrol 8-valve engines».
Disassembly and assembly of the engine, since 8-valve and 16-valve engines are basically the same in design, are carried out as indicated in subsection «Petrol 8-valve engines», except for the removal and installation of the cylinder head.
Cylinder block (pic. 2-138) sleeveless, cast iron. In the lower part of the cylinder block there are five supports for the crankshaft main bearing shells. The main bearing caps are finished together with the block and are therefore not interchangeable.
Pic. 2-138. Cylinder Block Details:
1 - cylinder block;
2 - oil crankcase gasket;
3 - oil deflector;
4 - oil sump;
5 - oil drain plug;
6 — the holder of a forward epiploon of a cranked shaft;
7 — the holder of a back epiploon of a cranked shaft;
8 - upper cover of the clutch housing;
9 - bottom cover of the clutch housing;
10 - clutch housing cover on vehicles with automatic gearbox;
11 - oil dipstick tube.
Cylinder diameters are given in Table 2-21.
- Clearance between piston and cylinder for new parts, mm: 0.03.
- Maximum allowable clearance (when worn), not more than, mm: 0.08.
The cylinder diameter is measured in three zones in mutually perpendicular directions at a distance of 10 mm from the upper and lower ends of the cylinder and at half its height.
